That\u2019s why we\u2019ve put together <a href=\"http:\/\/remediapublications.blogspot.com\/search\/label\/mystery%20genre\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this<\/a> four-part series all about the wonderful genre of MYSTERIES!<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><b>PART 2: How to Read Mysteries with Your Students<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<div style=\"tab-stops: 48.65pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">Use<\/span> this mystery story &lt;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rempub.com\/image\/data\/Tips\/MiniMysteries-REM118.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">free<\/a><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rempub.com\/image\/data\/Tips\/MiniMysteries-REM118.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> download<\/a>&gt;<\/span> from one of our <i>Mini Mysteries<\/i> books to practice the following steps. <\/span><\/div>\n<ol style=\"margin-top: 0in;\" start=\"1\" type=\"1\">\n<li style=\"mso-list: l1 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><b>Predict:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"> Have students review the title, the synopsis on the back of the book, the cover of the book, and the pictures within the story. Ask students to write down what they predict the mystery will be about. <br style=\"mso-special-character: line-break;\" \/><br style=\"mso-special-character: line-break;\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"mso-list: l1 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><b>Read:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"> You may want to read the mystery to your students to test their listening ability, or students may read the stories to test their own logic skills. A combination of both may prove to be the best approach.<\/span><\/span><\/span><i>Tip: If you hand out copies or post the story on your whiteboard, only give students small segments at a time so they don\u2019t read ahead. <\/i><\/li>\n<li style=\"mso-list: l1 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><b>Investigate:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"> Ask students to listen for interesting facts and clues. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div style=\"margin-left: 1.25in; mso-list: l3 level1 lfo2; tab-stops: list 1.25in; text-indent: -.25in;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">\u00b7<span style=\"font-feature-settings: normal; font-kerning: auto; font-language-override: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; font-style: normal; font-synthesis: weight style; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>If you\u2019ve given students a copy of the mystery, then ask them to highlight facts that give clues.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Or have students write down the clues and the paragraph or page number they are found on. <\/span> <span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><i>Tip: At the end of the story, have students go back to their notes and label each clue. As they continue to read, students can make notes next to each suspect: the suspect\u2019s alibi, motives, evidence, etc. <\/span><\/div>\n<p><a name=\"more\"><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"background-color: #e3f4fd; border: 3px solid #55acee; padding: 10px;\">\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<p>It doesn&#8217;t have to be a mystery! Use these steps to reading mysteries with your students via @remediapub #mysterygenre<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/ctt.ec\/n0yzY\">{ Tweet This }<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<ol style=\"margin-top: 0in;\" start=\"4\" type=\"1\">\n<li style=\"mso-list: l1 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><b>Predict Again:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"> If the story is short, split the mystery into segments by paragraphs or chapters, and pause to reflect and predict. At these breaks, ask students to write down or share their predictions with a partner. Encourage students to support their predictions with facts and clues. They can use the clues they wrote down in #3. <br style=\"mso-special-character: line-break;\" \/><br style=\"mso-special-character: line-break;\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"mso-list: l1 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><b>Conclude:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"> At the end of the mystery, challenge to them to analyze their logic.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div style=\"margin-left: 1.25in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo4; tab-stops: list 1.25in; text-indent: -.25in;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">\u00b7<span style=\"font-feature-settings: normal; font-kerning: auto; font-language-override: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; font-style: normal; font-synthesis: weight style; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Ask students to reflect and analyze whether their predictions were correct. When were they correct? Did they follow the right clues? Leave students in suspense.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Ask them if they know who the assailant is before it is revealed in the story. This gives students one last bit of practice with making inferences and using logic. They\u2019ve been given all the clues. Can they put the puzzle together? <\/span> <span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><i>Tip: Remedia\u2019s mysteries finish without necessarily revealing the end of the whodunit.
